Truffles naturally contain psilocybin. In the body, psilocybin is converted into psilocin, a compound that interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain.
People choose microdosing for different reasons, and experiences can vary from person to person. Scientific research into microdosing is still developing.

Psilocybin-containing mushrooms have played a role in several Mesoamerican cultures for centuries.
Historical and archaeological sources describe the use of these mushrooms within ceremonial and religious traditions. Among the Aztecs, certain species were referred to as teonanácatl, often translated as ‘flesh of the gods’.
Within Mazatec culture in Mexico, there is also a well-documented tradition of ceremonial use of psilocybin-containing mushrooms. This history later played an important role in the development of Western interest in psilocybin.
What we commonly call ‘truffles’ today are not mushrooms, but sclerotia: compact structures formed by the underground mycelial network of certain species that may also contain psilocybin.
The truffles used for microdosing are actually sclerotia. They develop underground within the network of fungal threads, known as the mycelium, of certain fungal species.
You can think of sclerotia as compact storage structures in which the fungus stores nutrients and moisture. Certain types of sclerotia naturally contain psilocybin and psilocin.
Although we commonly call them ‘truffles’, biologically speaking they are neither culinary truffles nor mushrooms. The term truffle has simply become the commonly used name for these sclerotia.

Microdosing calls for a mindful and careful approach. Take your time, follow the recommended dosage, and observe how you personally respond.
What should you keep in mind when starting?
✓ Start low — follow the recommended starting dose
✓ Take sufficient rest days — follow your chosen schedule and avoid dosing every day
✓ Track your experience — note your dose and how you feel
✓ Be cautious with combinations — take care when using medication, alcohol and other psychoactive substances
Microdosing is not suitable for everyone. Do not use psilocybin during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and take extra care if you use medication or have a history of mental health conditions. Always read our detailed safety information before use.
